New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Purani Dilli 6 owner Akash Nangia lauded his team’s fighting spirit and resilience after the side staged a remarkable comeback to secure a thrilling four-wicket victory over North Delhi Strikers in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 on Friday.
The win was particularly significant for Purani Dilli 6 as they were staring at a difficult chase after losing four wickets for just 53 runs while pursuing North Delhi Strikers’ imposing total of 186/6 in 20 overs. However, the team held its nerve under pressure and produced a composed batting effort to complete the chase in dramatic fashion.
Nangia said the team’s ability to recover from a difficult position and remain calm in the closing stages reflected the character and belief within the squad.
“This was a phenomenal display of character, belief and fighting spirit from the entire team. When we were 53/4, the game looked away, but the way Ashwini Chillar and Lalit Yadav rebuilt the innings showed the resilience this team possesses. The finish by Pankaj Jaswal under immense pressure was simply outstanding,” said Nangia.
North Delhi Strikers had put themselves in a strong position after captain Sarthak Ranjan and Yash Bhatia both scored 59 runs. Their half-centuries helped the Strikers post a competitive 186/6, leaving Purani Dilli 6 with a demanding target.
The chase, however, looked set to slip away early. Purani Dilli 6 were reduced to 53/4 before Ashwini Chillar and Lalit Yadav steadied the innings with a crucial 105-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Yadav played a pivotal role in the recovery, scoring 64 off 41 balls, while Chillar provided valuable support with 45 off 36 deliveries. Their partnership not only brought Purani Dilli 6 back into the contest but also laid the foundation for a dramatic finish.
With seven runs required from the final over, Pankaj Jaswal took responsibility in the high-pressure situation. He produced a sensational finish, smashing sixes off the first two balls he faced to seal a memorable four-wicket victory for Purani Dilli 6.
Nangia credited the entire squad for maintaining its belief until the final moment and said the result would provide the team with added confidence for the remainder of the campaign.

The side will now look to build on the momentum when they take on Outer Delhi Warriors on Sunday, hoping to carry the confidence from their latest comeback into the crucial encounter.
