Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the National Executive Chairman of the RJD, on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the state government over corruption, financial mismanagement, and alleged irregularities in government schemes. He alleged that the state's treasury has been emptied, while people involved in corruption and alleged scamsters are being protected.
Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav said that the government does not have sufficient resources to pay employees' salaries on time, provide scholarships to students, pay pensioners, or clear farmers' pending dues. He said that, on the other hand, the pockets of corrupt individuals and alleged scamsters continue to grow. He alleged that major financial scams in Bihar are not being investigated impartially. According to him, neither tahe state's investigative agencies nor the central agencies are seriously examining the alleged irregularities.
He claimed that if an impartial investigation were conducted, many prominent names could come to light. Referring to the Rishu Shri case, Tejashwi Yadav said that a small contractor was allegedly able to secure tenders from several government departments. He questioned why action had not been taken against the allegedly influential people responsible in the matter. He demanded that the government provide a detailed explanation regarding the Rishu Shri case and various other alleged financial irregularities.
Tejashwi Yadav alleged that Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had also spoken about withdrawing money from the contingency (emergency) fund. The RJD leader further alleged that influential individuals are protected in major corruption cases in the state, while action is taken only against lower-level employees in an attempt to suppress the matter. He said that the government's priority has become protecting the alleged wrongdoers rather than curbing corruption. Targeting Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Tejashwi Yadav described him as short-sighted, immature, and prone to making tall claims.
He also alleged that the Chief Minister has failed to make effective decisions on issues related to the state's interests. During the press conference, Tejashwi Yadav also raised the issue of government land allegedly being leased for long periods at below-market rates. Referring to the crematorium at Bans Ghat and related tax matters, he demanded answers from the government.
Also criticizing former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav said that the state government should conduct an impartial investigation into all the allegations and present the facts before the public to ensure transparent and accountable governance in the state.
