Chennai: Tamil Nadu government has approved the “Vetri Thamizhagam” vision document. A key initiative under the document is the “Thaaimaaman Thanga Mothira Thittam”, meaning the Maternal Uncle’s Gold Ring Scheme.
Under the scheme, a one-gram gold ring will be presented to newborns of families permanently residing in Tamil Nadu, provided the delivery takes place in government hospitals. The scheme aims to honour both the newborn and the mother after childbirth in government facilities. A Government Order for the implementation of the scheme has been issued. The state government has allocated an annual budget of 755.83 crore rupees for its rollout across Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed that tenders for the scheme be invited immediately.
