New Delhi/Jakarta, 07 July (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Indonesia's Istana Merdeka on Tuesday as he began the official engagements of his visit, marking another significant step in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Indonesia.
President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the presidential palace with full state honours. The two leaders inspected the ceremonial guard of honour before holding delegation-level talks aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, defence, maritime security, connectivity, digital technology, energy, healthcare and people-to-people exchanges.
Following his arrival at the palace, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for the warm reception.
"Thank you for the warm welcome at the Istana Merdeka," the Prime Minister said in a message shared after the ceremonial reception.
According to official statements issued by the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit reflects the shared commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors and further strengthen their long-standing partnership in the Indo-Pacific region.
The leaders are expected to review progress made under the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discuss regional and global developments of mutual interest. Several agreements and memoranda of understanding are also expected to be exchanged during the visit to enhance cooperation in key sectors.
India and Indonesia maintain close historical and civilisational ties, with growing collaboration in defence, maritime security, commerce, digital innovation, renewable energy and cultural exchanges. The two nations continue to work closely through regional and multilateral platforms, including ASEAN, the East Asia Summit and the G20.
