Shimla, Aug 29 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday announced that the state’s first ozone‑based drinking water treatment project is being established in Dehra, Kangra district, to ensure the supply of clean drinking water.
Addressing people at Baddal Thor in the Dehra assembly constituency, Sukhu said the government has allocated Rs 46 crore for the project. He added that similar ozone‑based water treatment projects would subsequently be set up across the state.
The Chief Minister also announced the opening of a veterinary hospital at Baddal Thor to strengthen veterinary services in the area. He said surveys were being conducted in panchayats to provide benefits under the Mukhyamantri Ka Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana, emphasising that the government is committed to ensuring that even the person standing at the last rung of society gets a rightful share in the state’s resources.
Sukhu highlighted initiatives undertaken since the Congress government came to power to make the state self‑reliant, noting that positive results were now visible. He said the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojana had been launched to involve yuva and mahila mandals in planting and protecting forests. Under the scheme, self‑help groups are provided financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh, besides incentives linked to the survival of plantations.
He added that steps were being taken to strengthen the education sector, with CBSE schools already opened in the state and more to be established soon to provide quality education. Sukhu assured that there would be no dearth of funds for development in Dehra, with adequate allocations being made for various works across the constituency.
Earlier, Sukhu received a warm welcome from residents upon his arrival at Baddal Thor helipad. Local MLA Kamlesh Thakur and other Congress representatives honoured him on the occasion. Later, the Chief Minister visited the Laxmi Narayan Temple at Chanour and offered prayers.
