New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) Zimbabwe have announced their squad for the upcoming tri-series against South Africa and Namibia as veteran spinner Graeme Cremer returns to the fold. Cremer is part of the 15-man roster to be led by Sikandar Raza after recovering from his left-arm injury.
The squad has a couple of injury-forced absentees, as fast-bowler Richard Ngarava misses out as he is on the mend from a lower-back injury. Fellow speedster Tanaka Chivanga has been ruled out too, after undergoing surgery due to an Achilles tendon injury.
Meanwhile, veteran batter Brendan Taylor has not been picked, with his last T20I outing for the Chevrons being in the T20 World Cup 2026 against Oman. However, he was recently part of Zimbabwe's one-off Test against Bangladesh in Harare, which the Chevrons won.
The 39-year-old Cremer is in the squad after featuring in the T20 World Cup 2026 too. He made a comeback in late 2025 after not playing for them since 2018 and then featured in the T20 showpiece in India and Sri Lanka next year.
Ngarava is Zimbabwe's ODI and Test captain, and he is being monitored by them ahead of an ODI series against Australia next month.
South Africa and Namibia have both announced their teams for the series. Gerhard Erasmus will be leading Namibia, which has an experienced core of Jan Frylinck, JJ Smit, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Ruben Trumpelmann and Bernard Scholtz.
South Africa have named a second-string squad for this T201 tri-series too, with Bjorn Fortuin set to lead the side, which features only Dewald Brevis, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Kwena Maphaka as the front-line players, who can be considered part of the full-strength team.
The tri-series between Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa kicks off on August 28 in Windhoek. The series will be in a double-round robin format, with the top two sides playing in the final on September 6.
