In a significant move to ensure the integrity of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for 21 June, the Central Government has tightened security arrangements.
To maintain fairness and confidentiality of the exam, the government has decided to impose a temporary restriction on Telegram until 22 June. Additionally, the message editing feature on Telegram will remain disabled until 30 June. The government stated that this step has been taken to prevent cheating gangs and any kind of tampering with the examination process.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has welcomed this decision. The NEET UG exam held in May was cancelled following allegations of question paper leaks. The Central Government does not want to take any risks with the re-examination.
Recently, Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan reviewed the preparations with NTA officials and gave a clear message that strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to affect the fairness of the examination process, create obstacles, or indulge in any kind of tampering.
To make the re-examination completely secure, the Centre has made security arrangements at multiple levels. The Indian Air Force is being involved in the transportation of question papers. CRPF and CISF personnel have been deployed at examination centres and to assist local administration.
The Central Government said that efforts are being made to maintain the credibility and transparency of the exam with the cooperation of state governments and district administrations. NTA has also announced some important changes for the candidates.
The re-examination on 21 June will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. The total duration of 195 minutes will include formalities related to the start and end of the exam. An additional 15 minutes have been provided in response to students’ demands so that the actual examination time is not affected.
Along with this, the number of pages available for rough work in the question booklet has also been increased. Earlier, students used to get only 2 pages; now they will be provided with 4 pages. NTA believes this will give candidates more convenience in solving questions and improve their overall exam experience.
