A petition has been filed in the apex court demanding an investigation into the alleged misappropriation in the handling of donations and offerings.
After the matter came to light, it has sparked intense discussions in political circles as well as on social media. What is being demanded in the Supreme Court?
Petitioner and advocate Anoop Prakash Awasthi has urged the Supreme Court to direct the registration of an FIR in the case of alleged irregularities.
The petition also seeks consideration for a CBI investigation under the court’s supervision. It highlights the necessity of a comprehensive probe into all aspects of the management of donations and offerings.
The issue gained widespread attention after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised it. Subsequently, leaders from the Congress and other opposition parties also demanded a fair investigation.
After the matter escalated, the Uttar Pradesh government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The team includes Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, Inspector General of Police Kiran S., and Special Secretary of the Finance Department, Neel Ratan.
Nripendra Mishra, Chairman of the Ram Temple Construction Committee, said on Monday that the SIT investigating the alleged irregularities in donations will not show any laxity.
Speaking to reporters in Ayodhya, he stated that the Ram Mandir Trust will extend full cooperation to the SIT and provide all possible assistance. He also mentioned that he had spoken with the district administration on Sunday, which assured complete support.
Responding to the allegations, Champat Rai, General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, said that the Trust’s internal audit is underway. According to him, no evidence has surfaced so far that substantiates the allegations made.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut launched a sharp attack on the central BJP government and the Uttar Pradesh government. He alleged that BJP people have a habit of stealing and that they steal everything — from EVMs to the offerings made to Lord Ram.
The controversy over alleged irregularities in donations and offerings at the Ram Temple has now taken a serious turn on both legal and political fronts. While a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, all eyes are also on the SIT investigation and the Trust’s internal audit.
